[net.religion.jewish] Rechnitzer Rejects records

dave@utcsrgv.UUCP (Dave Sherman) (10/04/84)

On our recent trip to New York we bought one of the albums (#2)
of the Rechnitzer Rejects, a "musical comedy" group. I highly
recommend the one we bought (I'm going to get the others soon).
The record is largely unintelligible if you have no background in
observant Judaism, and extremely funny if you understand it.
It also helps to know a bit about New York's observant communities.

Some of the better cuts include "Tie a Pair of Tefillen",
sung to the tune of "Tie a Yellow Ribbon"; "Glatt Kosher",
to the tune of "I Did it My Way"; and "Suburbia", about
a Jew who found Yiddishkeit through Lubavitch, to the
tune of the Barry Manilow song which begins "Midnight/
not a sound from the pavement". There's also "Home on the Blatt"
(Home on the Range); "Let's Call the Holy Rov" (Let's Call the
Whole Thing Off), etc.

By the way, if anyone reading this has the record and understands
all the words, can you drop me a line? I've been transcribing some
of the songs and can't figure out a couple of lines.
