This probably should have been posted before Yom Kipur but I would like to request Mehilah from all who have been upset by my stating unpleasant facts.

From Y. (J.) Martillo: > This probably should have been posted before Yom Kipur but I would like > to request Mehilah from all who have been upset by my stating unpleasant > facts. It is a mitsva to accept an apology and to grant m'hila when requested. To say something equivalent to "I apologize for insulting you even though you are 'dreck'" is not a true request for m'hila. I am not saying that the writer did not intend this posting as a sincere request; I have no idea what goes on in his mind and will not stoop to calling him names. The posting simply seems like an opportunity to be insulting while seeming to be otherwise. I didn't believe Jesse Jackson's request for forgiveness either. The term "fact" is obviously amenable to interpretation. I, for one, am immediately ready to grant m'hila when asked in a manner that makes it clear that the requestor really means it. I am under no illusion that he cares what I think. David Y'hezqel b. Mord'kai Simen ...!homxa!hou2g!dcs

That's OK, you're in plenty of time for next year. You have Mehilah from me for both your facts AND (if any!) opinions. I hope I have yours as well. - Toby Robison (not Robinson!) allegra!eosp1!robison or: decvax!ittvax!eosp1!robison or (emergency): princeton!eosp1!robison
