[net.religion.jewish] Missionary John Doe Skulks

yiri@ucf-cs.UUCP (Yirmiyahu BenDavid) (11/04/84)

The inappropriate question asked by 'John Doe' brings several questions
of his motivation to mind:

1) Why does this obvious Christian need to skulk around as 'John Doe'?
What is he trying to do? He is obviously hiding something.

2) The question has been treated in great depth on net.religion - so
why is this obvious Christian trying to bring such debate onto the
Jewish net? If the question were even remotely sincere, the question
has been treated in great depth on net.religion and has stalled there
for lack of credible arguments from the Christians, he should be
on net.religion trying to defend his beliefs - they are sadly in need of
defending at the moment.

3) Is this obvious Christian asking a question to evoke a platform upon
which he can foment some 'missionary' activity and bring us 'answers'
to his own question?

4) Is this obvious Christian asking a question in order to extract some
quote to use on net.religion embroil some unsuspecting victim in a new
round of debate there on the topic?

5) What is the best way to deal with a 'John Doe' skulking around?
[My guess is to ignore him?]

6) Are we going to need a moderator for this net?

Yes, you are probably right, he is hiding his name.
And that is not too difficult to figure out if you know
	the path...

Don't assume that the poster is a Christian. Maybe he is new
to the net. Maybe he has read some Jews for Jesus stuff. Maybe he
is just curious.

How about a simple answer to his question? Joshua was the
guy who brought the Israelites into the land of " Milk and Honey "
after the death of Moses. Joshua in Hebrew sounds something like
Y'shua. And of course, Jews do not believe that Jesus, sometimes
translated as Y'shua by non-Jews is/was the Messiah. This is a basic
tenent of our faith.

	NO!
