*You* must have heard of the thousands of people suffering and dying from undescribable hunger and famine in Africa, mostly in Ethiopia, but in neighbouring countries too. We as a people have needed in the not-too-distant past crucial help, both from fellow jews and from gentiles, for our survival, and have been denied it until it was almost too late. For many, it was too late. It is thus our moral duty, both as Jews and humans, to help, NOW, before it is too late, to the extent of our means, above and beyond moral, political, religious or cultural differences. If each one helps, the end result will be pretty impressive. And if some don't, it is even more of a duty to act. I have heard of three major ongoing efforts, to which our contributions are essential: - The UJA, helping the Jews already out of Ethiopia, to get proper relocation, medical help, rehabilitation and absorbtion. - The AAEJ (American Assoc. for Ethiopian Jewry), whose efforts are towards getting the Ethiopian Jews out of Ethiopia. - OXFAM, which catters to those suffering from hunger (food and relief of various kinds). There is a multitude of organisations, but as far as I can ascertain, contribu- tions to any of the above will go almost entirely for these goals. Don't forget the others, you won't be forgotten.
