[net.religion.jewish] Definition of anti-Semitism; Tutu alledgedly anti-Semitic

jefff@cadovax.UUCP (Jeffery H. Fields) (01/09/85)

Joaquim Martillo asked me to define anti-Semitism. That could be
hard to do as most Israelis, Arabs, Palestinians, and Lebanese are
Semitic. The term Semite is a racial term and not a religious one.
Of course, the popularly accepted definition of anti-Semitism applies
to members of the Jewish faith.

From this basis here is my definition:

anti-Semitism: 1) The belief that members of the Jewish faith are
not human to the exclusion of basic human rights. 2) The belief that
members of Jewish faith are members of an inferior, evil, or subhuman
race. 3) An act or acts that violate the basic human rights of the
members of the Jewish faith.

Working from this definition, I would think that proving Desmond
Tutu is anti-Semitic is rather difficult. I could be wrong; the
challenge remains: Provide sufficient proof that Desmond Tutu is
anti-Semitic with documented examples where Tutu has said or done
something in accord with the definition above. Mr. Martillo if you
have a different definition of anti-Semitism, please let us know.
