[net.religion.jewish] Valentine's Day Proposal

de@moscom.UUCP (Dave Esan) (02/19/85)

There was a recent proposal to send the money normally spent on gifts
for Valentine's Day to the starving of Ethiopia. May I point out the
following:

Valentine's Day is a religious holiday honoring St.Valentine, who, if
memory serves me, died for his Xian religious beliefs and had his heart
removed by the pagan princess who loved him.

This day replaced the Celtic holiday of Imbhog (sp?), when people chose
their loves.

In either case, this is a non-Jewish Day and should not be celebrated.

If you want to send money to Ethiopia, send it to Operation Moses, which
while having the airlift suspended, is still feeding Ethiopian Jewry, and
helping them adjust to their new lives.
