Since when is calling someone/thing "Jewish" a "defamation"? Before I hop to that conclusion, I'd like to know who is doing the calling and if it's done with malevolent intent. --Michelle, who once attended Jew-CLA and never had time to play in the UCLatino orchestra.

Since when do I have patience for apologists for anti-semitism? If you are gentile, I can only say that you show no sensitivity to the Jewish people. If you are Jewish, you should remember that the Verband National-deutscher Juden in Nazi-Germany (Association of National-German Jews) excused ALL anti-semitic Nazi actions as reasonable and without specific malevolent intent. As a result of my original posting, I got a letter from someone who heard the term "Jew-ston" from a FELLOW WORKER. ("Jew-ston" is Houston, TX). Or the other insults I got mail about: "Jew-Town" in central Chicago, "Jew of R" for U. of Rochester, "B-Jew" for Boston U., "Jew-York" for New York, "Jew-liard" for the music school of same name, etc., etc. I see no excuses for such name-calling EVEN IF Jews make up a large percentage of the population of these universities/cities. -- bill peter

Being a Jew of long standing (being born one :-) I find nothing offensive in Jew-CLA, NY-JEW, or even the 'classic' "Jew-Eat yet?" (for the uninformed, that's a line from Woody Allens' _Annie Hall_). In fact among most NYC Jews its very "in".... Lighten up. If these kinds of things are so upsetting, what do you do when you find a REAL anti-semite?!? (No flames PLEASE, when I was in high school in Amityville, NY I spent >2years at the hands of a pack of anti-semitic punks, in fact they decided to remove all of my front teeth one day...so I have a fair understand- ing of what I am talking about...)
