From: zauderer@ucbcory (Marvin M. Zauderer) Many Jews learn and adhere to meat-related kashrut laws. Why do so many observant Jews seem unconcerned with laws that concern fish? Are fish "covered" under general "living things" kashrut laws? Seems to me that one of the major tenets in this area is that the fish/cow/whatever be killed in a humane way. Do most Jews asssume that this has been done so with fish? Do fish lack nervous systems, and hence cannot be killed in an "inhumane" way? Has anyone ever considered this before? Does anyone care? Just seems strange to me.
