[net.religion.jewish] D'var Torah - Update

naiman@pegasus.UUCP (Ephrayim J. Naiman) (03/20/85)

<munch, munch>

This week is parshat Vayikra - the first portion of the third book of
the Torah. It is also one of the four special weeks- that of the reading
of parshat Hachodesh, the reading in Shemos (I think it's chapter 12)
where Hashem commands Bnei Yisrael to take a lamb for the Korban Pesach
- the Pascal Sacrifice. I didn't have a chance to prepare anything this
week, so I'm just going to post an update on the status of things.

The project (if I can call it that) has now been running for four weeks.
There are currently six people, including myself who are going to be
taking turns writing the weekly dvar torah. The first by another author
should appear next week. Once things slow down a bit for me, when I'll
hopefully be writing only every four to six weeks, and Pesach is over, I
hope to get down to making a reasonable Glossary of the used Hebrew
terms and one to two line English explanations.

If anyone has any comments or questions, please feel free to mail them
to me. ONLY PLEASE MAIL THEM TO ME DIRECTLY, DO NOT USE THE REPLY
FEATURE OF YOUR NEWS SOFTWARE. My site is not posting to the net, only
reading. So if you post to the net, I should see it. To reply to me by
mail, my address is:

if you don't know how to get to either allegra or ihnp4, use the path of
the poster of the article, strip his name and add pruxa!ayf. If you are
reading the weekly dvar torah, I'd appreciate a short message just to
get an idea how many people are reading it, whether they like it or not,
and any comments they may have. If you are interested in joining as a
writing member, let me know.

One last point, there was an article (a few articles? I just saw one)
from Ephraim Silverberg at the technion who came up with the same idea
of starting a weekly dvar torah at about the same time I did. I have
been in contact with him, and he is now part of this project.

Sorry about the lack of a dvar torah, I hope it will not happen again (
at least not for some time, I'll never say never)

Thanks to all who have contacted me, have a Good Shabbos and a Kosher
Pesach (If I'm not on again before then).
