[net.religion.jewish] No frummies, PLEASE!

If I were planning a Jewish singles event, and it was not to be affiliated
with any Jewish service organization, I'd plan it on Saturday during Shabat
so as to limit the crowd to non-frummies. No fooling.

About 45 minutes with a frummie single woman, and I'm ready to run away! I
stand up for their right to be frum, but I feel REALLY alienated at frum
gatherings. Little is done to make me feel more comfortable and I'm often
looked down upon for being reformed. So what's wrong with gathering Jews of
my own variety? Isn't that why there are different Jewish Movements?

In all seriousness and to enlighten some on the net, "Why are frummie
singles different from all other singles?"

I tend to wonder if frummies know that their attitude is different.
Now, I don't mean level of observance but respect for other Jews with
somewhat different religious opinions.

In all fairness, we may wish to discuss "JAPS", too.

Indeed Dovid, ma nish ta na? The frummies I've grown up with seem to
voluntarily carry a ball and chain, and can't understand why I don't want
to. Frummies, of any organized religion you may choose, seem to live in
constant superstitious fear of 'stepping on the cracks in the sidewalk'.

It may be the Jewish way to question everything, but frummies seem to only
ask questions not directed at the heart of their belief system.
"Doublethink" as it were. The reason that I have to run away from frummie
women is that if I don't, I'll start laughing at them! I don't deny them
their beliefs, but it's easier from a distance.

I am ever reminded of an ex-roommate who became a born-again Christian.
Nice guy, but at breakfast, he'd start talking about toast, and with three
sentences have established a path back to Jesus.

Regarding frummie respect for other Jews, 'holier than thou' attitudes seem
the rule rather than the exeption.

Sigh. Whatever energy Jews as a whole don't use in proselytizing, they seem
to expend in looking down upon other Jews.

Japs? I don't even want to start!
