Having seen a work of art by Judy Chicago which included a brief description of Lilith, my brother and I were wondering what was up. She was described as being the original wife of Adam, who was cast out for opposing his will, after which the folklore attributed several bad characteristics to her. We were wondering how accurate a description this is, and even if this was invented by Ms Chicago, since I can find no mention of her in the Bible, and I am (obviously) not much of a scholar. Any pointers or info would be appreciated. As usual, please respond by mail; I will summarize to the net if there is any interest (which I doubt). Ken Arnold arnold@ucbvax.arpa ucbvax!arnold
