[net.religion.jewish] non-religious jews

mjb@npoiv.UUCP (Martha Laferriere) (08/01/85)

Shelli Meyers posted mail recently to the effect that non-religious
Jews are in the minority, and that of that minority, only a small
percentage reads net.religion.jewish (this was in a reply to Rich
Rosen). Mr/Ms Meyers feels that the net is for RELIGIOUS issues,
and these wouldn't interest that small percentage of non-rel. Jews.

I would have to disagree with all of the above. First, non-religious
Jews are not in the minority, either in the universe or among net.religion.
jewish readers. Second, I feel (no proof, but a survey would be nice)
that non-religious Jews read the net avidly to gain an understanding
of what Jewish religious issues *ARE*, and also just to feel part
of the Jewish community.
