Hello out there. I've just moved into a new apartment and want to begin keeping a kosher kitchen. I've been moving towards more complete observance of kashrut for a while now and this is the next step. I would appreciate any good sources 'how to' type books that answer basic questions. Some initial questions: 1) My dishes are new. Do I have to do anything to them besides just wash them? 2) Same for flatware. 3) Can I use the same placemats for both sets of dishes? 4) What about glasses? As long as they've been cleaned, is it okay to use the same ones at milk and meat meals? It seems to me that glass should be okay. 5) Any suggestions for dealing practically with the problem of only one sink? To be really helpful, I would appreciate answers according to halacha. I'm not about to run out and blowtorch my oven (yes, I know Chabad provides such a service) but I do want to keep an apartment that many jews would feel comfortable eating in. Please reply by mail unless you feel this might be an appropriate topic for the group.
