<> Here is some e-mail I received in response to a discussion which has been raging in net.jokes.d (I posted an objection to a joke about jews being burned in ovens) along with my response. I am curious how you folks deal with people who display this kind of thinking.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Why does this issue bother you so much? I really do not understand it. > My grandmother lost 6 (six) brothers during the war. Going back through > my family tree I find lots of people who dies during the wars. (WWI and > WWII). Needless to say, my immediate family going back was not killed. How were your relatives killed? Did they serve? As a result of a bomb ex- ploding? Or were they massacred because of their religious beliefs? > Why are you reacting this way to a joke? A vital part of human nature is > the ability to laugh at things. Genocide is a very common way of dealing > with you enimies. Look back through history. You'll find *many* examples > of this sort of behavior. Why does it seem that you're only offended by > this joke because it refered to Jews? Is this the case, or are you bothered > by the idea overall. If you are bothered by the idea overall, perhaps you > might wish to mention other groups who have suffered. (Take Armenia 1905 at > the hands of the Turks, etc.) Again you ask me this question. I feel strongly about genocide REGARDLESS of the group involved. (And would have spoken out against the joke REGARDLESS of who it was about) The fact remains that this was a joke about jews, of which I am one. Why the hell should I talk about Turks and Armenians when he joked about jews being burned in ovens???? Can't you get that through your head? > Genocide is not a nice way to deal with an enemy, but if you are engaged in > a war and you feel that even if conquer an area, you will not be able to change > the inhabitants, the only easy solution is to get rid of the inhabitants. This > is a fact. What the hell are you talking about??? The jews of Germany were GERMAN CITIZENS. Why did GERMANS KILL THEM? They weren't from a foreign country. And why didn't the GERMANS exterminate all of the dutch, austrian, belgian, etc. etc. etc. nationals???? Why did they single out the jews, gypsies, homo- sexuals, etc.? Don't try and justify what you don't know about. > Sorry to flame like this, but I get *very* upset by the holocost groups who > say this should never happen again and totally miss the point that they are > not the only ones who have suffered. Yes Hitler was very efficient, but > this wasn't an isolated case i nthe history of the world. > Perhaps they feel somewhat ashamed. It takes quite a bit of cooperation > to get 6 million people to do anyhting. If all of them had actively > resisted, I tend to doubt how effective the policy would have been. > Bernie Gunther Maybe your guitly conscience is what makes you get so '*very* upset'. Your parents/grandparents, whether they actively participated or remained silent, were instrumental in the eradication of 11 million people. As for your remark about the 'cooperation' of the 6 million, It has only convinced me that you are a complete idiot. Where do people go when their own neighbors loot their stores, burn their houses, kill their children? I suggest you read 'Mila 18' by Leon Uris if you want to know about resistance... The jews of Europe did plenty of that. No... It was the treachery and cowardice of the German people during WWII that killed 6 million Jews. Dave Bloom
