[] I found out about the "moderated mailing list" a few days ago. I scanned the original posting about it and some follow-ups and *assumed* that it would not form. How wrong I was! My initial reaction was one of extreme anger at the concept. What came to my mind was the part in the Pesach Haggadah about the four sons - which I am not going to repeat, now. Yes, we have all four sons reading and posting to this group, to a more or less degree. To me, it is totally against everything I believe is "Jewish" to have a mail list for the so-called "wise son" that excludes the other three. Don't give me any crap that the other three can "join" but have their participation moderated/censored by the "experts." How will a newcomer to netnews know that this mail list exists? What about the people who didn't subscribe but are interested and may have missed the original posting? What value is a private list going to add to the "community?" We have had many disagreements in the past few years in this newsgroups. Unlike other newsgroups, when we asked people to leave, such as non-Jews expounding on Christianity or engaging in Political debates, they certainly did. The people who did not ( and shouldn't ) leave are those Jews whose beliefs, practices and customs differ from some on the net. A Democracy believes in majority rule with minority respect. This newsgroup always seemed to be Democratic. I am ashamed and disgusted that so many people feel that they have to crawl into a corner to discuss things that many could benefit from. Oh, I don't know. I'm sorta glad they left. Saves wear on my 'N' key. I'm really into all that hocus pocus anyway. I hered a Lubavech Rabi talk about jewish mystacism once, and I don't know if I want to be connected to them in any way... Those guys actually believe they can influence world events by 'tampering'. The guy claimed his head Rabi moved the war from Israel to Lebanon!!! When I was standing at our zionist table at the commons, the local Chabad guy came up. When I asked him when he plans to go to Israel, he said "I'm already packed, just as soon as the machiach arives". Give me a break OK!!! On the other hand, Israel is better off with guys like him here. I guess I'm just pissed off. -Gadi -- ARPA: friedman@topaz.rutgers.edu UUCP: ...{harvard, seismo, ut-sally, sri-iu, ihnp4!packard}!topaz!friedman CMS: TECC!RUTGERS!SYSOP BELL: Call the Rutgers CMS BBS at (201) 932-3887
