For some time now we are struggling to get organized
here in Crete and around the world.
It started as a Crete to North America connection
but I hope it will become a scientific pipeline
where the Greek expertise abroad
and the needs in Greece can meet.
We will offer to interested persons
news of the local situation and opportunities.
Regarding the University of Crete you have heard some news
including our program on which many gave comments.
As far as the Institute I'll give you a few points:
1)The Institute is government owned but it runs as a Co
In this way it has much needed flexibility.
2)The main purpose of the Institute is to do applied research.
3)We are mainly concentrating in three directions:
Data Base and Office Systems
Computer Aided Design
Image Processing
4)We are currently participating in three and have applied
to another two European projects (ESPRIT) of major importance
5)We have a Vax 780 (Ariadne) ,IBM pc's,and on order Sun computers
plus Ethernet.We may also get some Lisp machines.
6)We are reasonably well financed as well as it can be hoped
in a small country.
7)The Institute is separate from the University.The connection
is achieved throu interlocking directorships.
WE DESPARATELY NEED GOOD COMPETENT PEOPLE
WE CAN PAY COMPETITIVE GREEK INDUSTRIAL SALARIES
AND THE WORK IS FAR MORE INTERESTING
The main reason for setting up the activity is
to enable research oriented people to return to Greece
with as little Bullshit as possible.
ON THE OTHER HAND
IF THE GREEK PEOPLE WANT TO STAY ABROAD
YOU HAD BETTER TELL ME SO I CAN ALSO
