[net.nlang.greek] Modern Greek Studies Association

From: macrakis@harvard (Stavros Macrakis)

Pavlos Spirakis mentioned the Modern Greek Studies Association among other
Greek groups in the U.S. In fact, the MGSA is not an association of Greek
philologists (mistranslation, really 'literaturists') and poets, but rather
a scholarly organization devoted to the study of Modern Greece in every area
(literature, yes, but also history, folklore, sociology, linguistics,
anthropology, economics, ...). A large proportion of their membership is
non-Greeks, and much as most of their membership love Greece, the purpose of
the MGSA is not to help Greece or to encourage socializing, but rather to
study Greece. For further information, write Prof. Peter Bien (President,
MGSA) at Dartmouth.
