[net.veg] spinach with ginger / broccoli

courtney@hp-pcd.UUCP (02/16/84)

I don't recall all of the discussion leading to the formation of "net.veg",
but I think that vegetarian recipes BELONG HERE!!!

The reason: if ALL recipes are posted to "net.cooks" then those of us that
don't eat meat have to wade through the large number of non-vegetarian recipes
(which are irrelevent to us) to find those few might be of interest to us.
On the other hand, meat-eaters who want to review vegetarian recipes can
subscribe to "net.cooks" as well as "net.veg" (and they can "wade" though the
OCCASSIONAL posting regarding philosophy, etc.).

Let's not get TOO hung-up on arbitrary rules... I think that this news group
is appropriate for any topics of particular interest to vegetarians or those
meat-eaters who are interested in vegetarian eating.

Thank you very much for posting the recipes. They look very good and
I am anxious to try them. But...

If I remember correctly from the controversy surrounding the formation
of this newsgroup, recipes belong in net.cooks, not net.veg. There are
many non-vegetarians who enjoy eating vegetarian meals from time to
time. I suspect that many of them have unsubscribed to net.veg because
of the large amount of pro/con discussion which predominated in its
early days. (I nearly did, myself.) The fact that this newsgroup is
called "net.veg" and not "net.cooks.veg" was intended to emphasize that
its subject matter was to be ideology and nutrition, not recipes.

Please remember that even flesh-eaters enjoy their veggies, and post
recipes to net.cooks. Thanks!

Veggie recipes are most welcome to this newsgroup. It has always been that way.
The original discussion that preceded the formation of this group did not say
that recipes should not be posted here but that a newsgroup of this type would
not be limited to recipes and, therefore, would be out of place as a subgroup
of net.cooks. This newsgroup is for information pertaining to all aspects of
vegetarianism, including (but not limited to) ethics, nutrition, recipes and
anything else. I do agree that, for the benefit of non-vegetarians and those
who do not subscribe to this newsgroup, veggie recipes should be multiply
posted on both net.veg and net.cooks, but please do not exclude them from this
newsgroup.

Hey, here's a novel idea -- post recipes to BOTH net.cooks AND net.veg!
Then people who read one but not the other can still see them.
