[net.veg] Vegetarian Restaurants

(resubmitted... our news connection is gunnysack...)

How about vegetarian restaurants?
I'm not talking about the quiche and salad places, or the counters at the
health food stores, but places that serve sit-down vegetarian dinners among
their selections. There are restaurant guides, but they are often incorrect
and out of date.
   Let's get together a list!

I'll start out with a few:

key: 0-9 food quality
      V - "pure" veggie
N - "natural" food, restaurant serves meat dishes too.
R - regular restaurant with a large vegetarian menu.
      $ cheap (0-$6), $$ moderate ($6-$15), $$$ expensive ($15-)

Zorba the Buddha (Rajneesh) SW Park and Salmon 4 V $$
La Casa De Rios SE Hawthorne & 35th 5 R $

*Eugene, OR

*San Francisco, CA

Dipti Nivas Church & Market 6 V $
Cafe Jaqueline (Souffle!!!) North Beach? 9 R $$

*NYC
Arnold's Turtle Village 6 N $$
Brownies N. of Union Square 6 V $$
Ultimate Lotus (Cantonese) Midtown East 7 R $$
Ratner's (Dairy) Delancy St. 6 ? $
+ about 40 others whose names I forget...

*Everywhere (chains)
The Good Earth 5 N $$
Golden Temple (Krishnas) 3 V $

Of course, no one should use a list like this without checking the
phone book, and calling first.
Additions? Subtractions? Corrections? Send to the net, but I'll
be building a directory...

Great. I would like to see contributions on good vegie restaurants in
various cities. It makes travelling much easier. It would be nice to
include a line or two on each one as to their specialty or other info.

I'll fill in the ?'s on the Sunlight Cafe in Seattle. I eat there about
once a month, and every time I tell myself I won't go back. The food is
pretty poor compared with other restaurants I have been to. The only
thing that saves it is their nutburger, but Julia's has better ones.

Seattle

Sunlight Cafe 6034 Roosevelt 3 V $
Julia's 2305 Eastlake 8 R $$
Julia's Wallingford N & 44th 8 R $$
    Good home-made pastas; nutburgers.
