[net.veg] moral dilemma

on the subject of "killing plants" :

most plant food is a fruit in the sense that the plant
doesn't die when the fruit is picked
in fact picking the fruit does it a service by spreading the seeds around
when you throw the core away
so apples, peppers, squashes, nuts, grains and beans etc. are all fruits sortof
you could even argue along the same lines for milk, eggs and honey but
then again the dairy industry feeds the meat industry (i can give
more details on this if anyone's interested)
you could also argue that root vegetables "could" be picked after the frost
and the plants soul has passed on to the big organic garden in the sky
but that's obviously not how it's normally done
the hard one's to explain away are things like lettuce etc. where the plant is
beheaded - well if you had your own garden you "could" pick a few
leaves for dinner and leave the rest, in fact a lot of plants grow
	better if you do
so who cares, eh?
i do

in answer to the nutritional question:

no there will be no nutritional deficiency in eating as the genesis quote says
(seed-bearing plants......) for a healthy person, of course if your
body is all f__ked up from many years of meat and junk food then
	be careful
if you are worried about protein then get into grain/bean complimenting
as outlined in Frances Moore Lappe's book "Diet for a Small Planet"
as for vitamin B12 - it's in "tempeh" (a delicious fermented soyfood) and
	in most nutritional yeasts
