*** REPLACE THIS LINE WITH SOMETHING GOOD TO EAT ***
Last summer my in-laws went berry-picking and gave us more blueberries
than we could eat. We've had 'em in pancakes, we've had 'em in pies,
and we've got'em in the freezer. How I can I use them up?

			Thanks in advance,

Three things come immediately to mind:

THING ONE: Wine, maybe? (If you teetotal, then juice.)

THING TWO: Freeze 'em. J-O-C and other books of that genre ususally give
directions on how to parboil and freeze various fruits. The nice thing
about this is that you can decide later what to do with them.

THING THREE: Make some pemican. I've had good success with apples,
grapes and apricots. Find a decent recipe, but the main idea is you mix
the fruit with water and a bit of sugar, then dry in an oven at low heat
for several hours. It keeps forever and makes a nice trail snack.

OH -- thing 3(a) -- I used to LOVE making a dessert of frozen yoghurt
covered with Quaker 100% Natural Cereal and blueberries. Mmmm, mmmm!

ps: I'd be curious to see a follow-up posting of the ideas you get. Here in
WA state, there are LOTS of fruits later in the year at ridiculous prices,
and I'd like ideas other than jam... thanks. -gb-

My very favorite blueberry dish is cottage pudding with blueberries covered
with cinnamon sugar. The recipe is simple, using only a spoon to mix. One
does not beat this but stirs. The recipe I use may be found in the 1965
edition of "The Fannie Farmer Cookbook." It's probably in the newest edition,
too. If it is omitted, a grave error was made! Cottage pudding is wonderful
with any fruit on top.

	Enjoy.

I've held off on these suggestions beause I thought they were so obvious,
but no one else has mentioned them, so...

I like to use frozen blueberries in pancakes. Mix them right in the batter,
and by the time the panakes are cooked, the blueberries are unfrozen.

Another favorite is peach/blueberry pie. The ingredients should be obvious.

Also, blueberry kanten. If you are reading this in net.veg and you don't
know what kanten is, you ought to find out about it!

Then there's always the blueberries-as-an-excuse-for-a-treat type dish, like
blueberry cheesecake (or blueberry tofu-pseudo-cheesecake for the purist) or
ice-cream sundae with blueberry sauce.
