I have a number of questions regarding finding vegetarian products of all kinds, including food, clothing and cosmetics. My definition of "vegetarian" product is one that is NOT made from the body of a mammal or bird. In this definition, milk and eggs are vegetarian products and so is anything made from fish, reptiles, insects, etc. 1. How do you find good quality non-leather shoes? I have been able to find canvas sneakers and even a pair of canvas hiking boots, but I'm not able to find quality dress shoes, running shoes or mountain boots (the kind that I can wear in the snow) that aren't made out of leather. 2. How is goose down harvested from the goose? I have avoided buying products containing down since I fear that the goose may be killed in the process. 3. What common food items generally contain animal products? I know that most refried beans (except the vegetarian kind) contain lard. Any others? 4. What ingredients in cosmetics (such as collagen) are of animal origin? I would appreciate information relating to the above or pointers to magazines or books. Thanks, Barbara Ports Tektronix, Inc.
