[net.veg] diet and evolution

I agree with Sukie Crandall. Our increasing consumption of meat may be a
contributing factor to our having bigger bodies, but what has it done to the
development of our consciousness? Is man any wiser in the ways of the soul
today than he was over 2,000 years ago?

All I see is that man has become increasingly expert in poisoning his body and
causing unnecessary suffering from stomach cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer,
lung cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, stress, etc., etc., etc.
It's been said that a meat-based diet is a major contributing factor in man's
aggressiveness and war-like behavior (I know that there will be disagreement
on this point).

Man is not designed to be a meat-eater. There are many studies and books
out detailing the differences between the bodies of carnivores, omnivores,
and herbivores. Man is much closer to the herbivore in design.

I have also seen this statement, and think it is a good argument against
eating meat (if you accept it as being true). Compare the Sikhs, who
regularly eat meat and make up a disproportionate part of the Indian
military, and the rest of the Indian population which is primarily
vegetarian.

However, an Indian I work with also accepts this statement, but thinks it
is a good argument FOR eating meat; he feels that the Indian people are
too passive as a result of their vegetarian diet (the result being British
colonization, etc., etc.).

All because of meat, of course. If all turned herbivorous, the world's problems
would disappear. :-)

Not true, I'm afraid. :-(
