[net.veg] Summary of vegan cookbooks

My favorite vegan cookbook is "The Natural Foods Cookbook" by Mary
Estella. She is a graduate of both the Cullinary Arts institute as well as the
Kushi Institute (i.e. macrobiotics). Her recipies tend to have a real gourmet
touch. They also require perhaps more preparation than normal.
The equivalent of the Joy of Cooking is "Ten Talents", which is put
out by 7th day adventists, I think. The recipies are very normal, American,
etc., except that there are no animal products.
Of course, any macrobiotic cookbook is also good.

A few good vegan cookbooks I've come across:
The Book of Whole Meals, by Annemarie Colbin
Natural Foods Cookbook, by Mary Estella
The Changing Seasons Macrobiotic Cookbook, by Aveline Kushi & Wendy Esko
---
A book called "Ten Talents" has some amazing recipes that contain no animal
products at all (except for honey...). However, be prepared to use some bizarre
things in making your food. The book is by Frank and Rosalie Hurd. It can
occasionally be found at Health Food Stores...
---
Try "The Farm Cookbook". It uses no animal products whatsoever. There is also a
tofu cookbook that does the same thing, but I don't remember the name right off
hand.
---
Another article recommended _The_McDougall_Plan_, and I concur. This
book has a wealth of nutritional information and a lot of good recipes to boot.
There are a variety of "spinoff" cookbooks available, all with "The
McDougall" in their titles. They're good recipes (though some could make better
use of herbs). Highly recommended.
