Many of the computer systems at UCSD will be off the air from late Friday, December 16 until Monday the 19th, while the power company moves a bunch of our 12,000 volt feeders around. Some of the systems will actually be powered down, whilst others will be running but unreachable because the communications equipment connecting them to the world will be powerless. The main news and mail gateway machine, UCSD, will lose it for a couple of hours on Sunday, but should remain up otherwise. The Cray SuperComputer Facility (SDSC) is on a separate power feed and they don't expect any problems, except that campus communications access may not be possible. Clearly mail and news will be delayed a bit. We hope you don't mind.
