My new house (well, almost new... :-) has an Admiral refridgerator that seems to be in need of some repair. I would appreciate any comments on the reasonableness of fixing this machine (of about 7-8 year age) versus tossing it. The only data I can give is: Compressor is currently drawing 9.5 amps (no typo) on startup, and about 6.5 running. <This for a 3.75 nameplate draw> The no-frost stuff is turned off <I cycle it once a while to defrost it, the timer is pfui>. The duty cycle of the compressor is about 65% in winter, and nearly 100% in summer, this due partly to a bad door seal, and partly to the sick guts of the machine. <I've sealed the door temporarily, which results in about 50% duty cycle in winter, and still 100% in summer. The style is a side by side freezer/refridgerator type. (I didn't buy it, remember?) I'd appreciate any info from former/present Admiral owners. If my experience is any indication, ... -- TEDDY BEARS ARE NICER THAN PEOPLE-- HUG YOUR OWN TODAY ! (allegra, harpo, ulysses)!rabbit!jj
