[net.consumers] My solution to junk calls

laman@sdcsvax.UUCP (03/13/84)

As soon as I'm not interested, I tell them (this usuually is pretty quick!).
If they insist on talking, I just set the phone down and walk away. I'll hear
a beep in a few minutes. As a matter of fact, I started doing this after one
person just wouldn't quit talking. I didn't hear a beep for at least 5 (!)
minutes. I think he was becoming a sales machine. He was upset enough that
he called back, said a "cute" phrase, and hung up (loudly). Ha Ha Ha.
I warned him.... You know you got'em upset when they go out of their way
to call you back. Heh heh heh.

That's why you should listen at least long enough to get the name
of the company -- that way if the sales-cretin calls back with a
"cute phrase" you can call the head of the sales department and
report it. (Or call the president of the firm in the middle of
the night, if you never want them to call you again.)
