This has nothing to do with consumers, but I was amused to see something about a computer calling itself Alfie when there is, on the CDC 6000 terminal system here at Purdue, a language called ALFIE (Algebraic Language For an Interactive Environment). One section of the manual introduction even is headed (music please): "What's it all about, ALFIE?" (For the curious: ALFIE is a munged version of BASIC--i.e. just close enough to be understandable, but just different enough to be incompatible if you try anything too complicated. We sensibly dropped support for it some time back.) -- -- Jeff Sargent {allegra|ihnp4|decvax|harpo|seismo|ucbvax}!pur-ee!pucc-h:aeq Have you hugged your junk mail today?
