Beware of renting cars from Hertz Italia. If the per mileage cost
(~$.80 per mile) doesn't bankrupt you, their bookkeeping will. Well,
almost. After nearly a year of complaining to Hertz that the distance
from Trieste to Zagreb is 230 kilometers not 453, they finally responded
with the following:
We are in receipt of a copy of your March 14 letter to Core
States Bank and have received a request from them for a further
investigation.
Upon checking our World Atlas, we found that we had used the
wrong kilometer conversion chart. We agree that the distance
driven could have been no more than 250 km and wish to apologize
for our error. Your VISA account is being credited for the
$95.16 difference.
Your courtesy in giving us an additional opportunity to review
this matter is appreciated. We regret that we were not more
flexible in handling it previously.
Mercifully, I'll omit the author's name.
