[net.consumers] A debit card is not a credit card!

A recent article mentioned one outfit that offered a free "credit card"
purchase, the money is
immediately deducted from your account.

Even if you are willing to put up with that disadvantage, I believe
that there are other disadvantages.

There are a bunch of Federal laws intended to protect users of credit cards
from shady practices on the part of merchants.  As far as I know, these
laws do not apply to debit cards.

For instance, one law says that if you order something and you don't
receive it, you have the right to refuse to pay the bill when it comes.
In particular, you do NOT have to pay the bill and then try to convince
the retailer to give you your money back.

You obviously don't have this option with a debit card.
