Here, as promised, is a summary of the results of my question about experiences with Farmer's Insurance. I have also talked with some of my neighbors who have had experiences with Farmer's. The bottom line seems to be if you have an excellent history they pay off small claims promptly and with no hassle. For more frequent or larger claims they're not so friendly. I guess that probably describes most Insurance Companies. Responses ran about three to two in their favor. Here are some of the comments. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, our insurance is with Farmers. Avoid XXXXXXXXXXXX as an agent -- he just seems to sit around and not tell you how you can save money. My husband had a claim with Farmers because his car was dented by a snowwall. They paid off promptly. We also had a claim with them about our frozen hottub. They paid off promptly on that too. No complaints here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I used to have Farmer's insurance on my car. I never had any problems with claims or anything. The only reason I've recently switched to Allstate is that they were a little cheaper. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've had calls like that in the past, too, from Farmer's. My primary mistake was in not telling them "NO (!)" the first time. I'll bet you get calls and calls and calls 'til you either buy or tell them (firmly) you're not interested. As to rates & service: I've never heard anything good about them. Usually, problems (related to me by Farmers clients - I'm not one, obviously) have to do with claims adjustments: they tell you one thing on the 'phone and another on the form you sign... (I've been happy with State Farm for 11-12 years, now.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Farmer's Insurance promply paid a claim I made. I have no complaints. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- .... When I had a claim with them on an accident which was not my fault, I was told by the agent that I should try to collect directly through the other party's insurance. This was because even if it was not my fault, and Farmer's was reimbursed from the other party, the claim would go on my record. I did go through the other party's insurance, but found out that the accident went on my record since the agent reported it to Farmer's. Second, I had three accidents ( all not my fault within a span of two years) and farmer's decided to cancel me since I was involved in too many accidents. I feel this is ridiculous...even more so since I always went and claimed directly through the other party and farmer's never knew about a couple of them until they went and got my driver's record when I applied for a change in coverage. ... Anyway I was disgusted with them and changed my insurance carrier. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- So that's it folks. Thanks to everyone to who sent replys!
