You must be more specific about what happened on what model for what
purpose.  I have been using a Sears 10XL with 38 inch steel housing mower
for over 15 years to mow 2 acres of grass and 3 acres of Christmas tree 
fields with rocks, sumac stumps, and every other thing you can imagine.
I have had no major problems.  When a nail goes through a time it gets
flat.  When a bolt gets loose I must tighten it.  When a blade gets dull
I must sharpen it.  When I hit a rock I must replace the breakaway
bushing.  Belts must be replaced periodically.  Oil must be changed.
Regarding the lawn sweeper, I have been using the same lawn sweeper
for 15 years also.  I replaced the bag when the first one rotted after
10 years.
By the way,  I just got new blades, a belt, and battery clamp from
stock at the local Sears store.
