You said that a $46.20 charge for the "Bankcard Travel Club" showed up on your credit card bill even though you never gave the Travel Club your credit card number. Did you give them your Social Security Number? Maybe they got your credit card number from the credit agency (previously mentioned in this group) that indexes by SSN. Of course charging you for this without your permission is illegal and you should write your credit card company contesting the item. For those of you who advocate giving your SSN to anyone who asks for it: With the amount of hacking (the security-breaking kind) going on today, I don't want to make it any easier for people to violate my privacy. Face it, businesses are not going to spend any more on security than they have to, so security is going to be a problem until laws are passed requiring it. As for groups with a legitimate need to cross-index data bases, they usually have the money or the legal ability to achieve their goals.
