[net.consumers] Washers & Dryers

<gulp>
Based on my family's experience and the experience that we had at my dorm at
MIT, I have a one word recommendation for laundry equipment:

                         MAYTAG

They are by far the most reliable brand of equipment I've seen. Those TV ads
with the lonely repairman are no bull.
Also, Consumer Reports has consistently rated them tops in their reports.
(Caveat, I've only had experience with gas dryers, but the test reports indicate
that their electric ones should be as good as the gas models.)
Based on the experience, I've had at my present apartment, I would stay away
from GE (and their other label, Hotpoint). The washing machines tend to need
many repairs and the dryers (gas) are not in the same class as Maytag.

We have Frigidaire washer and dryer that have been (ab)used for nine
years; the only failure to date has been one of the water input hoses,
not supplied by Frigidaire and trivial to replace.
