I would appreciate any suggestions from net-land on the best way
to tackle GM with a consumer complaint. In August 1982 I purchased
a new 1982 Chevrolet C-10 Silverado pick-up. In May 1984, the
transmission failed at 55,000 miles (unfortunately, the warrenty
expired at 50,000). I am now writing to GM in an attempt to get
them to reimburse me for the $1000 repair bill.

My question is - to whom should I send my complaint letter in order
to get the quickest response? Also, to whom might I send copies of the
letter? The dealer that sold me the truck, Ralph Nader, Consumer Reports,
and the N.J. Division of Consumer Affairs are a few folks that come
to mind. If anyone has other suggestions and also addresses and
phone numbers for these people, I would appreciate hearing from you.

  Thanks in advance!

Rita - and others.

I have had a series of problems with my new S-10 1983 Blazer; including
constant stalling for 3 months (a new carburetor solved that eventually);

Bad wheel alignment which ruined a front tire at 7000 miles.

One channel of the stereo went bad.

Noisy spedometer cable and head which eventually (12000 miles) was replaced.
(Its still making nise tho!)

Noisy wheel trim rings.

Safety spare was recalled and replaced.

Excessive oil useage, 1 qt in 2000 miles; and finding out I was 3 qts low
about 4000 miles after a dealers service and checkup.

(Thanks to somebody here on the net who complained about the V6 oil problem
I have gotten the dealer to agree to replace the valve guides next week)

All these problems were eventually solved by the dealer - especially with the
help of the dealers WIFE!!. She is a great asset to the business in soothing
out problems and getting people ( Customers, GM, sevice managers) to cooperate.

The oil problem was 'solved' by sending a copy of the posting I read here
on the net, to the dealer, and asking ------ are you *SURE* that there are
no bulletins on this problem??

Good Luck.

After seeing all this nonsense, I now know why I have owned a Datsun,
Mazda, and Honda after owning one (and the last) Ford. Before you
call me a commie and send the UAW goons to my doorstep, be advised
that the Honda comes from Marysville, OH., but, alas, not with the
"union label" sewn into the metal anywhere. Get with it, Detroit
or get the hell out.
