TWICE THE WORK FROM TWO PHONE LINES Two phone lines are much more useful when they're electronically interconnected. If you're talking on one line, this ingenious device automatically directs all incoming calls to your unused line. Connect an answering machine or cordless phone, and it will automatically direct calls coming in on both lines to that one accessory. Measures 4 x 3 x 2.5". Comes with 7' modular cord, instructions, and one year warranty. This ad is in the latest issue of the Sharper Image catalog, and though the idea sounds interesting, I don't believe that you can do what they say you can. If your line is busy, how will the device know that someone is trying to call you so it can direct their call to the other line? The second part of the ad about directing both lines into a single device seems straight forward enough, though. Anyone care to explain what *they* think this device does? -- roger long pertec computer corp {ucbvax!unisoft | scgvaxd | trwrb | felix}!pertec!bytebug

I'd guess that it simply connects to both lines and just chooses the one that's ringing. Thus, one answering machine, cordless phone, or regular phone can be used for both lines. It must be a simple priority encoder. skeptical Bob

My guess is, you need call forwarding and/or call waiting to use it. -- {ucbvax!hplabs | allegra!nbires | decvax!stcvax | harpo!seismo | ihnp4!stcvax} !hao!woods "... the heat come 'round and busted me for smiling on a cloudy day..."
