A microwave is very nice to soften ice cream directly out of a freezer.
Be very careful to start with a few seconds and work up, one second at
a time, to find the ideal time for a specific ice cream treat.
(I heat some types of ice cream for 9 to 11 seconds.)

When you open the microwave to take your ice cream out, the air
around it will feel very warm! I think the reason is that some water
leaves the ice cream and is heated in the air nearby.
In 11 seconds, most of it has not yet disersed throughout the oven.
