Here is the best way I have found to clean glass. Using this method I can do all the windows in my three-bedroom house in less than half an hour! And you never need to buy glass cleaner again. Ever! Take a bucket and put into it a gallon or two of warm water and two capfuls of ammonia solution. That's all! drop in a sponge and get a squeegee and a dishtowel, and lug the mess outdoors. Get a GOOD squeegee. Bad ones (what you can find in supermarkets, Gemco, K-mart, etc.) are awful. The best brand is Ettore Steccone, and is available in a wide variety of sizes at most 'janitorial supply' stores, along with many other nifty cleaning goodies not available elsewhere. It is not cheap, but like other good tools will last forever. Wash the window with the ammonia solution, then squeegee clean. Draw the squeegee horizontally across the top of the window, then vertically down in "stripes". BE SURE to wipe the blade with the dishtowel after EVERY stroke. This is the key to success. If you omit this you will get streaked windows. Drips can be wiped up with your finger, since the surface oils on your skin will be removed after a few minutes work. This is the method use by professional window washers. It uses a little equipment, and cheap 'consumables', and is easy. (You don't think those pros are going to work harder than necessary, do you??) -- Berry Kercheval Zehntel Inc. (ihnp4!zehntel!zinfandel!berry) (415)932-6900
