[net.consumers] mmm-mmm...salt!

rcd@opus.UUCP (Dick Dunn) (10/22/84)

It was reported recently that the Campbell Soup Co. has reached an
agreement with the NY state Attorney General's office to stop advertising
its soup as healthful food.

The action was brought about because it was found that one serving of
Campbell's Soup may contain up to 1500 mg. of sodium. In contrast, current
recommendations suggest a limit of 1100-1300 mg. per day as the upper
limit of sodium intake for an adult.

I found a certain perverse sort of amusement in the fact that they chose to
change the advertising instead of the product. I hope they get the
publicity they so richly deserve for this attitude.

BUT, they are bringing out a second line of sodium free soups, I've
seen them on grocers shelves!

You don't expect instant productline change do you?
