**** **** From the keys of Steve Henning, AT&T Bell Labs, Reading, PA aluxe!2141smh > The Volvo 340 series has been sold in Europe for several years. > I don't know why they don't sell the small(er) Volvo in the States. In 1979 I saw a lot of the Volvo 343's. They were a very popular hatchback car. The people at the Volvo factory said that it would not meet the emission standards in the US because the engine was too big for the car's weight. By the time they added the pollution crap it wouldn't be worth importing. The specs were: 4 cylinders, 1,397 ccs, compression 9.5:1, octane rating 97, 45 liter gas tank, 920 watt starter, 700 watt generator, length 4.205 meters, width 1.66 meters, height 1.392 meters, tires 175/70SR13, transmissions automatic or manual, weight 900 kg, load 500 kg and best of all, it maintains Volvos design for safety with energy absorbing body. It is not a Daf or even Daffy.
