[net.consumers] Buying a 19 inch color television--continued ...

Additional information on TV's which recently came to light: I called
the famous 47th Street Photo in NY and asked them about the TV's I
mentioned in the above. They don't have JVC or Toshiba at the present
time but say they will get Toshiba in mid-January. JVC they're not
sure of.

But, they do have the Sony KV-1357R, which is being offered now at
Arthur's (a catalog walk-in and pay for it and wait for 15 minutes for
the box to emerge from the bowels of the store place) at $399.96 on
Route 18 in E. Brunswick, NJ. Their price is $329.95, or 17.5% less.
But NY city sales tax is 8.25% compared to (I think) 6% in Jersey, for
a total of $357.17 (47th Street Photo) versus $423.96 (Arthur's), for a
total difference of 15.8%. By the way, shipping charges to NJ are about
the same as the tax in case you're thinking of cheating on the sales
tax, which is illegal (you're responsible for paying the NJ sales tax
if you buy outside the state and "import" a purchase into the state).

The nice thing about 47th Street is that they do give you prices over
the phone. I called Trader Horn in Paramus and found that they don't.
I wasn't too surprised by this. They also tell me that they don't stock
Toshiba or JVC, interestingly. These two brands appear to be newcomers
with an upscaled product. Anyone know more about that?
