The reason that eyeglass frames are so expensive is that they are in the
same class as jewelry. Frames are "designed", and, especially for women,
are meant to enhance a person's looks.

Watches are the same, although this is changing. How else can $2 worth
of electronics in a gold colored case be worth more than $10? Yet you
can spend $100 for a simple digital watch.

BTW, my reference to women in the first paragraph is my impression of
the outlook of the fashion industry, not my personal opinion.
