AMT tools are well made, good quality, and an excellent value. I gave my father an AMT drill press last year and he is quite pleased with it. AMT stands behind all their tools with a 10 year warranty - and they will make good on any problems. My only regret is that they have started to import their tools from the Far East rather than make them in Pennsylvania like they used to - the quality is still there but the jobs for Americans aren't. If you want to see the tools before you buy and you are in the Northeast, they have a showroom at their factory/warehouse in Royersford, PA and everything is on display. Otherwise, you can order by mail. Bill Mitchell (ihnp4!lcuxc!wjm)

They are by no means Craftsman quality, but they are functional. They use castings and bushings wherever possible rather than machined parts and bearings. Their parts tend to rust and must be kept clean and oiled. I have ripped many 2x6's into 2x3's on the bench saw and learned to cope with the way the blade assembly would twist under the load. The 1 HP light duty motor survived all this heavy duty work. I tried to take my time to prevent damage to the motor.
