[net.consumers] Toyota Camri

barryg@sdcrdcf.UUCP (Lee Gold) (02/28/85)

Last time I tried this I got a note that sdcrdcf couldn't get onto randvax.
If things are now back to normal...and non-sdcers are reading this,...

My parents' car recently burned up and they need a new one. Consumers
Guide was very taken with the 1983 Toyota Camri. Does anyone out there
know anything about the 1984 or 1985 Toyota Camri?

Our Camry now has 23000 miles on it and it is still running great.
Maintenance is about as close to none as you can get. Roominess
is much better than the other cars it competes against. It has
been on two 3000 mile road trips. One through blazing heat (Texas
summer) and the other through extreme cold (-15 F.) and never once
complained. Mileage was variable, depending on the terrain and speed,
from 34 to 40. Intown mileage is between 28 and 31 (includes one
passenger). This is for our LE model with the automatic trans. We
bought it the summer they first came out and was very impressed with
how easy it was to deal with the dealership. I was caught by the recall
of the timing belt (bad rubber compound) for '83 - '84 models but
they replaced it for free in an afternoon. I've also been using it to
tow our 900 lb. sail boat through hills out to the local lake. This
is probably too much to be stressing the car with but nothing bad has
happened yet.
