[net.consumers] Table saws, Grizzly

jls@sabre.UUCP (John Schantz) (03/21/85)

I am in the process of buying a table saw. I want a
10". I have been noticing some ads for a 10" table saw from
Grizzly (Imports?). The table saw they have in the ad has
the best options for everything. It looks like a great saw.
and it is only about $330. Most table saws that has this
equipment is usually over $500. One of my questions to the net
is, has anyone had any experience with Grizzly? Another
question is, what experiences and recommendations do you have
for table saws?

I currently own Grizzly Imports 8" Jointer and 15" planer, both
of which are very good for the money paid (~1400 delivered).
No problems so far, and the people at grizzly are pretty good
about talking to you. They will even give you the name of
the nearest person that has the item that you are considering
buying, so that you can go look at it (this is done, of course
with the permission of the other person). Shipping was on
time. If I hadn't already pruchased a used Rockwell Unisaw,
I may have given the 10" tilting arbor saw that Grizzly imports
a try. That one runs about $800, a little more than half
the best price that I've seen for a new unisaw, and is a
'copy' of the unisaw.

The machines come pretty well greased over, to protect them
from rust, etc., so expect to do a some cleaning. Set up
was straight-forward. Currently, a friend has been using
this equip. more than I, and I'm sure he'd have something
to add. Mike, are you there?

Yeah, I'm here.

I just sent a reply by E-mail. But I'll say it again for the
net. Grizzly gave you a damn good deal on your jointer and
planer. I've put small amounts of almost every hardwood through
them and about 200 board feet of 5/4 sugar maple. All has worked
out very well.

You didn't mention that we had a little wiring to do when the
equipment came. One came with the wrong plug ( a 110 plug on
a 220 motor ) the other came with no plug. Quick trip to the
hardware store put us in business.
