Hello! What kind of records do you *really* need to make an insurance claim??? I just read over the summary of the renter's insurance information, and noticed that several people recommend keeping records of your insured belongings. Well, I have been wondering about this for a while. I have renter's insurance, and asked my agent about it, and he said that I should not worry about it. Is this right? Actually, he said that in case of a large loss, a list would be a good idea simply to help me remember what there was, but was not necessary as "proof". Could someone who has made a claim give some guidance? How did it go? Did they take your word for it about what you owned, or was it like an IRS audit? I keep a list of most of my stuff, and some receipts for items which come with warranties, and a few photographs of my favorite, hard-to-replace items.
