[net.consumers] Question for Walkmaniacs

nessus@nsc.UUCP (Kchula-Rrit) (07/09/85)

[With such a weapon I could boil the Earth to vapor.]

     A week or two ago, I purchased a FM-Walkman(tm) clone/superset and
posted a question about Ni-Cad batteries for it. I am running Dura-
Cells(tm) in it until I can check out the local discount stores for
Ni-Cads w/ charger; these have been in the radio for approx 1 week
and are still holding up well. The radio is played approx 2 to 3 hours
a day, so I am impressed wither the batteries' performance(and their
price, too! :-( ).

The new questions I have for the network are--

	0. The manual says that the FM antenna is located in the headphones
cable. I usually clip the radio to the neckline of what-ever I
am wearing because it fell off when I tried to clip it to my
waist. Not wishing the cable to get in the way, I left it tied
up with the tie-wrap that it came wrapped with. When FM
reception is weak(such as in a bus or train), I find that if I
put my hand on the bundled-up cable that reception improves
considerably. The question is should I let the cable hang
	    loose to get better reception?

	1. This relates more to the "We're Beatrice-You're not" discussion
that started in net.flame a couple of weeks ago. The little tune
that they play at the end of the "Beatrice" commercials sounds
very similar to G.E.'s "We bring good things to life" jingle that
was pushed a while ago. Question: Are Beatrice and G.E. related
in any way? Just curious(G.E. had their name on the radio).

"We bring good things to life" may be a copyright of General Electric
Corporation. "Walkman" and "FM-Walkman" may be copyrights of SONY
Corporation. "Dura-Cell" may also be a copyright(of Mallory, I believe).

A follow-up in the same vein: Does anybody know how to couple
a 1/4-wave or other large antenna to a walkman for better FM
reception? I use the thing only in my office, so portability
is not a consideration.
