then i've paid off all debts, a few had gone into collection. i
was turned down for a SMALL loan recently and requested my credit
report from trw, lo and behold the accounts that had gone into
collection but were PAID since still showed up as negative. i called
trw and they said only the company that reported the debt can have
it removed from the report. HELP!!

HELP!! It is true that only the company that reported the debt can have it removed from your report. However: 1. If you tell TRW you paid the debt, they are required to try to contact the company and verify your claim. If they succeed, they will remove the item. 2. If they can't get verification, you are allowed to enter a statement of your own as to what happened; they must give this statement to everyone to whom they give a report on you.
