[net.misc] More early broadcast

mmt@dciem.UUCP (Martin Taylor) (03/24/84)

Since the topic of early broadcast radio has been circulating around
this newsgroup about the first broadcast radio station (in N. America),
I would like to broaden the question to cover TV, and the world at large.

Does anyone have earlier dates than these for the first:

Public broadcast with a published daily schedule -- BBC Alexandra Palace 1934

Intentional Transatlantic broadcast -- Baird, 1927
                                        (Manchester to Long Island, NY)

Intentional Transatlantic COLOUR broadcast -- Baird, 1928 (same hop)

These dates have always seemed to me to be quite astonishing, in view
of the general assumption that TV started at the 1939 New York World's Fair,
and public broadcasts not until after the War.
