[net.consumers] Mc Donalds Value Pack ?!?

daw1@rduxb.UUCP (WILLIAMS) (07/15/85)

Mc Donalds has this so-called value pack offer now. You
get a soda, fries and chicken nuggets. The voice on the commercial
says distinctly 11 nuggets. But if you look closely you can tell
that the box being used for the nuggets has a 9 printed on it.

When I bought one of these a week ago [for someone else - don't
tell me they're lousy :-)] I got a box of nine nuggets. At the
time I figured the commercial meant eleven things were one soda
plus one fries plus 9 nuggets. That is, the special was for a
total of eleven items of whatever.

So what you see is what you get; but what you hear is NOT
what you get.

I think it's a rip off. Anyone care to comment?

I think it's pretty expensive for greasy garbage!

My guess is that someone f@#%cked up their math. They
probably started with 11 octal and ended up with
decimal 9. Time to buy a programmers calculator!

Ours had 11 nuggets. Maybe they just use the 9-nugget boxes?

Well, it makes more sense to use the 9-nugget boxes. I mean, they
already have them available. Just think of the savings passed on to the
customer because they didn't design 11-nugget boxes (:-)).

They made a mistake. Although they are using the nine-box, it contains
11. They stuff them in a separate area so they give them only
to the people who have bought a value pack.

To all the Chicken Mc Nugget lovers out there:

It brings me great sadness to report that Mc Donald's Value Pack is no
more. I tried to order one yesterday and was told that they were no
longer making them. I guess that means that they ran out of Value Pack
boxes and extra-large fry boxes since the offer was good "while supplies
lasted." (I doubt they ran out of soda, chicken, or fries.)

If you look at the aid you can see that it is a 9 nugget box inside
the value pack. The top of the 9 shows.

mkg@lzwi.UUCP (M.GOSNELL) (07/24/85)

The advertised price of the value pack is $3.85. At our local
McDonalds, the individual prices of similar items (9 piece McNuggets,
large soft drink, and large fries) total $3.28. They're charging
you 28.5 cents each for the two extra McNuggets as compared to
20 cents each in the 9 piece serving.

The "value" in the name doesn't apply to the consumer but to the
corporation.

But there are (were) more fries (noticeably more) in the Value Pack. I'm not
sure just how many, but certainly that must bring the McNugget price
down somewhat.

From the adds I've seen on television and in McDonalds, the fries and
Coke are super-large size. If you don't like Coke, you can substitute
a "regular" large-sized soft drink.

The advertised price in my area is $3.49. Also, you are supposedly getting
a larger order of fries than the normal large size. If this is the case, as
I believe it to be, then you are getting a slight "value".

Value Pack??

If I were a McDonalds owner and I wanted to make more money,
I would try to increase sales of my highest margin product.

So if I threw in a few more fries for .20 to .30 cents
at my cost of .01 per trainload, I'd do OK.

Remember, New and Improved means I had to change things
because I wans't making enough money the old way....

How true, how true!!!! When I worked at a McDonald's when I was in high
school "....in a galaxy long, long ago, and far, far away", fries and soft
drinks were pure profit items. Not quite .01 per trainload, but pretty close!!!

     `Nuff said!!!!!

The actual deal is this: You get 11 nuggets ( in a nine nugget box )
			 An EXTRA large fries, and
			 A large coke for 3.69

The boxes in my area ( central CA ) are printed with a small extra banner
that states you get 11 nuggets, while the rest of the box says 9.

As to whether it is a rip off or not well, one man's garbage is another's
gourmet........ ( 3.69 is a little steep for parts of a chicken but
				parts is parts... :-)
